About Us

Founded in January 2008, The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge is a volunteer organization that fosters empowerment and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school students who cannot otherwise afford them.

We strive to make the prom a memorable experience for young women through the generous donation of evening gowns.   We assist young women in attending their prom with style and confidence while at the same time instilling an appreciation for community service and the importance of giving back.

More than 400 dresses were distributed to junior and senior students from Baton Rouge-area public high schools  at our first annual Dress Giveaway on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the Family Life Center of the Living Faith Christian Center

For the 2009 prom season, our goal is to reach students at all 17 public high schools in East Baton Rouge Parish.  The main criteria for participation will be student eligibility for the federal free or reduced-price lunch program.

Our effort to collect donations for the 2009 Dress Giveaway will begin in September, when donors will have an opportunity to drop off dresses between Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 28 at any location of the YMCA of the Capital Area.  Additional Dress Drive events will be held over several months.  As our official media sponsor, WBRZ-News2 will be instrumental in raising awareness about our Dress Drive through news coverage and promotional spots.

In March 2009, we will host our annual Dress Giveaway where students can try on and choose a free dress. This fun and exciting retail event will be held over a two-day period at a location to be determined. Volunteers will be on hand to manage the event and help deserving young women select their prom dress of choice.

The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization and all donations are tax-deductibleThe success of our efforts is made possible by generous dress donations, dedicated volunteers and broad community support.
